the 5 star reviews are epic. at least 90% are manufactured or engineered internally. Coming from Manhattan and not knowing any better, i signed an agreement with ADT. It started with the 'install charge'- it was $1,100. Not an exaggeration, they installed not a single piece of equipment. They used the previous house owners system which was put in 8 years prior. That was the high water mark. My $54/plan is $70 and no one is quite sure why.

I kid you not if you call about cancelling or have a legit claim to overbilling they actually hang up on you. I dont throw this around loosely but it's a scam, they steal from you out of the gate. If you think I'm a nut or one-off who had a bad experience, please look at BBB or see other opinions on board like reddit or whenever you get your content. You'll see thousands that have stories much much worse than mine and you'll be hard pressed to find a positive one. Here on google or yelp plants are easy, on reddit it's much easier to spot a plant so you read any "great" experiences.

There are none to be had with ADT. So many legit options out there, do yourself a favor and save many headaches and thousands of dollars and move on.

I have had an ADT alarm system for over 10 years but my monthly rate has almost doubled since I signed up. I switched to another alarm company but unfortunately I can’t say I am fully done with ADT yet. When I called to cancel they thanked me for my customer loyalty for over a decade. They then attempted to retain me as a customer, to which I politely explained that I already switched to a new alarm due to the ever increasing bill. She told me that I could go back to my original rate from when I signed up, I again said too late. She then asked if I had called and complained about the numerous rate increases and I said no I had not. She then informed me that if I had called and complained that they would have just lowered the rate for me. I asked why wouldn’t ADT just continue to honor the rate from the initial contract. She told me that they would now that I called to complain. I then reminded her that I didn’t call to complain, I called to cancel my service. At this point she agreed to cancel my service but informed me that it wouldn’t be cancelled for another 30 days. I asked why would it take 30 days to cancel, to which she told me the same contract that no longer honored my initial rate says they cancel 30 days from when you call, thus getting one more monthly payment before you leave. I asked if the payment would be prorated since I was calling mid billing cycle and she didn’t know so I was transferred to billing. It will be prorated. If ADT had not continually increased my rate then I would still be a customer. With that being said, most alarm companies offer similar services and I now am paying another company less for more features/services.

I had a great experience with ADT from start to finish. The salesman Ryan Orsini was incredible he educated me on the best system for my house and made it very cost effective. The installation team was on time and got the everything installed in a timely fashion. They took time to make sure I understood everything. I am very happy with ADT.

This has been the worst customer service experience ever. I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to schedule a panel replacement, and they just couldn't seem to do it. It feels like they don't care about your protection or satisfaction.

When we spoke with an ADT representative, we explained that our system was completely non-functional, broken, and was not working for the last two years. It was agreed that we would need our system replaced and that ADT would not charge for the service.
ADT sent a repair man versus an installer to our house. The reason for the call was totally misrepresented in the service ticket. The Repair man was not able to resolve our problem for this reason.
We followed up with another call to ADT.
We were now told that we would be charged for removing and replacing the system. This is not what was discussed when we made our original call and asked for help.
A company that misrepresents and then reneges on the promise to the customers does not deserve the customer’s money. We will not be continuing with ADT under these circumstances.

THE SAGA CONTINUES. After my first review they kindly reach out to offer a free visit and review of the work. Now ADT is charging me for the visit and even though I’ve called the CS number, written them multiple notes and mailed, they still send emails about owing them a balance. Of course you cannot reply to email because they are not monitored.
Continuing to be a really bad decision. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Go with Nest, Sloman, ANYBODY else.
Extremely disappointed to learn from an ADT technician that the subcontractors ADT contracted to perform our original installation did it completely incorrect. Thousands of dollars wasted and no restitution to fix it.

We had a system they said needed upgrading to support a camera doorbell. We spent close to $500. To “upgrade”. We have spent 8 hours over two days with technicians and it still doesn’t work right. I now have to give up another day to spend with a technician. They have not offered us so much as $1. back for our trouble and, as I said, it still doesn't work right.
